Rye Preserve is a 145-acre natural area in Manatee County, Florida, located northwest of the Lake Manatee Dam in Parrish at 905 Rye Wilderness Trail. Established to protect “old Florida” amid regional development, it preserves four distinct ecosystems: sand pine scrub, xeric oak scrub, oak hammocks, and river community habitats. The preserve offers a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking on its trail system, kayaking, horseback riding, fishing, and camping. It is home to rare wildlife such as the gopher tortoise and Florida scrub jay, and features the historic Rye Family Cemetery, a remnant of the post-Civil War Rye River community that provides a glimpse into early pioneer life.
